Music Art Spirit
The Rev. Douglas Beck, ObJN loves fierce landscapes. Douglas resides in Maine. It is place known for natural, diverse beauty. It is a place with beautiful, fierce landscapes. Such places can be constant reminders of God’s love revealed through the good of God's creating.
A Pennsylvania native, Douglas spent his early years reading scripture and praying and feeling connected to God; though it took many years of intentional searching for a church home connecting those early experiences to community. His young exploring led him to find a spiritual home in the Episcopal Church in his early adult years.
Through a rereading of scripture some years ago, Douglas further fell in love with God and fierce landscapes all over again. And, a call to ordination that he had known as a child was energized.
Love shines through Douglas through his writing, art, music and his life. Douglas is a husband, artist, musician, oblate, spiritual director and priest beside Frida, his faithful Portuguese Water Dog ministry assistant. Douglas earned degrees from The Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore and the Atlantic School of Theology, Halifax. He is currently rector of the Parish of North Sydney, Anglican Church of Canada, on beautiful Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. Before ordination, Douglas served parishes and seminaries in areas of music and liturgy.
Douglas is an oblate in the Order of Julian of Norwich, a recognized monastic order in the Episcopal Church. Various musical pieces composed or arranged by Douglas are available for purchase here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/douglas-a-beck-sheet-music/3002520?ac=1
